Entang

Oil on canvas.  4 ft x 3 ft.  2024

PHP 45,000 + shipping

In kite fighting, ‘Entang’ describes the moment when a kite’s string is cut, making the kite fall gracefully. The artist draws on this image as a metaphor for individuals struggling with poverty, highlighting that even in times of defeat, one can display dignity and resilience. The message urges people to persist and maintain hope, much like the graceful descent of the fallen kite, despite life's setbacks.

The individual self is a quarry from which he draws visions, images, and idioms. This is an attempt to express and understand the scenes portrayed and formed by our thoughts that may relate and build connections, and to communicate and seek inner truths that may eventually reveal the ways of infinite possibilities- the ‘beginning of something’.

Bingit ng Sukdulan.  Mixed media. 5 ft × 6 ft.  2022

Bingit ng Sukdulan is a large mixed-media artwork composed of five vertical panels within a single frame. The work traces a person’s life journey, focusing on a critical moment of decision that emerges after prolonged hardship. A recurring road motif runs across the composition, symbolising life’s continuous and uncertain path from beginning to end.

Throughout the panels, symbolic elements—doors, cages, bridges, ladders, lines, and roads—express contrasts between freedom and confinement, calm and struggle, strength and vulnerability, as well as reflections on social inequality.

The earlier panels convey brokenness, pain, and limited choices. The central panels explore the tension between freedom and imprisonment, using abstract imagery to suggest peace, power, support, ambition, and the roles people play as helpers or climbers in one another’s lives.

In the fourth panel, a human figure stands at a crossroads, faced with stark choices represented by ladders leading toward heaven or hell, and a road disappearing into the unknown. The final panel extends the road beyond the artwork itself, inviting viewers to reflect on their own life paths and decisions.

That So-real Feeling.  Acrylic on canvas.  4 ft x 3 ft.  2022

That So-real Feeling explores overlapping, implied, and unexplained scenes drawn from the human subconscious, rendered through an abstract, surreal composition. The work seeks to express, envision, and understand ambiguous inner landscapes shaped by thought and imagination—scenes that interweave, form connections, and communicate deeper truths. These truths may ultimately reveal an infinite range of possibilities: the beginning of something within a new normal reality.

The Birth of Maganda.  Oil and sawdust on canvas.  4 ft x 3 ft.  2002

As individuals and organisations increasingly advocate for environmental awareness and an improved quality of life, I too, as a practicing artist, feel compelled to respond to the conflicts and complexities confronting our society today. Through my work, I offer a personal reflection on the state of life itself—exploring themes that span natural landscapes and celestial realms, human anatomy, and the animal kingdom, viewed through the lenses of past, present, and future. Some works carry an almost prophetic vision of what lies ahead, while others adopt a more cynical or satirical tone, engaging directly with social and political commentary. Throughout my practice, I consistently embrace a visually surreal approach.

This particular piece, The Birth of Maganda, embodies transformation and the reimagining of the self. The cocoon symbolises change and metamorphosis, while the intertwining roots and vines suggest infinite potential—the emergence of something new.
